Suite of Idents
A suite of idents is when a company creates several idents which all have similar designs and ideas. The idea behind this is to have different idents that link together although all together they provide a different variety of interests for specific audiences. Also, having a certain theme that links all of the idents together creates brand identity which allows an audience to remember which company it is for can be easily recognised.
BBC1 Suite
An example of a suite of idents I will look at is from the BBC. I will look at the current idents from BBC1 and see how each of them have a recurring idea throughout the suite. As you can see from the images below, which are images taken from the idents, they all incorporate a circle. This links back to previous BBC1 idents which all incorporate a circle.

The ident shown above is the bikes ident for BBC1 and would appeal to an audience that like sports. If someone is interested in bikes specifically then they would like this, but I feel that a wider audience of anyone that enjoys sports/activities would enjoy it. I would say that this ident would be shown in the evening as it shows a fast activity taking place, mimicking the fast-paced television programmes shown in the evening. If this was to be shown at any time of the year, it would be best shown in summer when people are active and out on their bikes, or when an event is upcoming. The idea of circles is shown at the end of the ident as the camera moves above the track and shows the bikers riding around the track.

This ident is from BBC1 and shows dogs performing around a course. This ident would appeal to an audience that has dogs or likes animals. With that said, the audience doesn't have to have a dog to enjoy this ident as it is made to be visually entertaining. If this was shown at a particular time of day, I would say that in the day time would be best as it is energetic and uplifting. The sun is also shining so it has been recorded during the day time, which reflects the time of when it would be best shown. The message this shows about the channel is that it's fun yet relaxing. As the dogs are running around the course they are then seen to slalom around poles which shows the recurring circle.

Finally, this ident is from the BBC1 suite and includes footballers showing their skills and then ending up in a circle, which is a repetitive theme, passing footballs to each other. This would appeal to an audience that like watching football and sport. Stereotypically more men would be more interested in this ident than women as football is a male dominated sport. If this was used at a particular time it would be when football events are upcoming (e.g. world cup, start of the premiership league etc.). Again, the idea of circles is seen at the end of the ident just like all other idents in the suite.
Similarities
The idents have been created to have the same themes/design and this is can easily be seen throughout all of the idents. The way in which they have been recorded also looks the same as they all include close ups of the action and then zoom out and above to see the circle at the end. A red circle then appears over the top of the action, with red being the colour of BBC1. Although this theme recurs throughout the idents, they each have a different theme; the first would be for people that like extreme sports and motorcycles, the second would be for people that like animals (especially dogs), and the third one would be for people that like football. This broadens the audience type although is still able to keep an idea recurring throughout the suite. This means that although the ideas are for a certain audience, they are broad enough for anyone to enjoy. An example of this would be the dog ident, shown above, which has been designed to appeal to those that like dogs although it is entertaining for all audiences.
